My Dr. Gave me a script for prenatals, (Prenate DHA)  I think mostly because his office supports the company because they have all kinds of samples of this stuff....Anyway, they are $50 a month even with my health insurance, and don't come in a generic....  Wondering if you ladies know of any really good over the counter ones, or of presciption ones that possibly come in generic. (I'd do anything for my baby, but 50 bucks for vitamins a month when I know there are cheaper just as good ones, seems a bit too expensive for me)  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I take the Target brand pre natal vitamins.  Whichever one you chose, make sure that they have Folic Acid in them, it helps with brain development.  No need to pay $50/mth for them unless it's medically necessary.

almost all the over the counter prenatal vitamins have the same stuff in them, my insurance paid for mine luckily, but you can compare the labels, if there is one with more folic acid in it than others I would pick that one, the more the better

Yeah that's ridiculous. You can go to Walmart and get prenatal vitamins over the counter for less than $10. All you really need is folic acid and you can go into any drug store and get a bottle 800mcg folic acid for $5. Doctors and drug companies are always trying to rip people off.

i like juice plus because it contains no man made chemicals and it is good for the whole family, even pets! but it's about the same price. and i understand - i can't afford it right now either. so, go to your local heath food store. the ladies there are always knowledgeable and helpful. let them know money is an issue (or whatever) because if not hey will try and sell you the store. but my local health food store gives me a 20 percent discount!

I use over the counter Materna (Centrum brand - they have tonnes of different blends)I've never paid more than $20 a bottle and that gives you 100 vitamins. So just over 3 months. I'm in my 3rd trimester. They have a nice coating - so they go down smooth....(I tired generic store brand and although a whopping $5 cheaper - the aftertaste was sick!)Any who. My hair grows like crazy! My NAILS are so long - and grow so fast - I have to cut them - CUT them weekly....My face is clearer than it's ever been and I'm sure if I didn't have twins sucking all my energy - I'd have lots of energy too!!  Definitely recommend this brand.

I would suggest to go to Whole foods, and get from in there. It will cost half of the price you are paying now, and it is organic.Plus, you  can always ask for another samples, like I did. They should give several for a choice.I'm having these prenate DHA, and i like it.Anyway, congratulations!

You don't need prescription prenatals that is SOOO not necessary. Just make sure you get a prenatal with atleast 800mcg of folic acid in them. That's the important thing! I have a prenatal vitamin I got at Walmart for $7. My doc gave me a big thumbs up!

my doctor didn't even give me a script. He told to get them at a drug store and to get some that are high in folic acid im currently taking stuarts prenatal granite there lke 35$ a bottle but you get a hundred and they should last u the first like 3 months but they are high in everything, my hair has already started to grow and ive only been taking them for about 2 weeks. Just go to CVS or something they have a crap load of prenatals that u can choose from

The ones the doc prescribed me were 40 a month with my insurance, but they do offer a generic form of it. I would ask if he could write you out a prescription for the generic form. If it's a pre-made prescription pad for that brand, the pharmacy will only fill it with that one, but if he writes it out they will give you the generic. My doctors office also unloaded about 2 months worth of the vitamins on me because I was the only one that needed the extra iron ones due to having twins. I would call and ask, they can always call the prescription in to your pharmacy. I would ask the doctor if there is a reason why he wanted you on that specific one. I had to have the prescribed one because I could not support two babies on the regular vitamins and diet alone.
