6 drugs are placed along with 9 vitamins that are identical in appearance. if the police were to pick 3 of the tablets at random, what is the probability that the guy will be arrested for illegal possession of drugs? what formula should be used here?

= 100%(1 - [9/15 * 8/15 * 7/15])= 100%(3,375/3,375 - 504/3,375)= 100%(375/375 - 56/375)= 100%(319/375)= 1,276/15% or 85 1/15%Answer: 319/375 or 85 1/15% or 319:56 ratio

first find the total combinations, which is nCr(15,3)second find the combinations with one drug in it, which is nCr(6,1)*nCr(9,2)find the combinations with two drug nCr(6,2)*nCr(9,1)third find the combinations with three drugs nCr(6,3)the probability P = Na/Nall = combinations with at least one drugs in it / totoal combination = 371/455 = 0.8154

awryt.....not gonna take u thru any formula..oly plain logic~!now u hav 15 tabs6 fer succes......9 failure...u need atleast 1 in the 3 to b successful.....dat is all cases except wen all 3 are failures1 - p(f,f,f) nowp(f,f,f) = (9/15)*(8/14)*(7/13)coz u r pickin 3 tabs....nd checkin 1 by 1....reqd answer = 1 - (9! * 12!) / (15! *6! )

Jie Z is correct in my opinion.The formula being used is called hyper geometric distribution.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypergeometric_distributionIf getting drugs is the defective, the formula is1 - [Pr(x=0) = [nCr(6,0) * nCr(9,3)] / [nCr(15,3)] ] = 0.815
