When I was a baby/newborn baby (idk which) my mom played classical music for me when I slept at night. Now, I'm a teenager, and I LOVE to listen to classical music. Could it be (i'm not saying that it is) that whatever music that you listen to when your a baby becomes your favorite type of music when you become older?

It may have some influence, but it also points to the fact that classical music is valued at your house and you have grown to appreciate it for its complexity and melodies.  When I was a baby my dad made my mom play both southern gospel and classical music for me, and I still like both, but heavy metal is my favorite.

In many cases, yes...The same happened to me and my sisters and exactly the same in the case of my cousins and their parents who were also musicians like mine. I have heard this story repeats itself in many cases...

Even though I don't know of any scientific studies that would prove or disprove such an hypothesis, I would venture to say it's most probable.     There was one study that I can recall, that demonstrated playing Mozart for growing plants, increased their rate of growth, and their thriving under, such an influence.     You should thank your mom, if you haven't.                                        Alberich

I could believe it to be true. Babys and newborns are very aware of their surroundings. Although most won't remember anything from those beginning years, I think it influences much of their life.

I don't think so... my parents never played any classical music for me(and that is my favorite music).  When I was little, my dad would like play loud rock music and stuff.  I remember hearing that kind of music a lot as a really young kid, and I don't remember hardly any classical.  Now, at 15, I don't like rock all that much(except some is good) and classical is the only kind I really love.  I don't think the music you hear when you're really young would necessarily become your favorite kind later.  That might be the case for some though.

Well, I played bassoon, recorder and krummhorn all through my pregnancy and my daughter grew up surrounded by classical and folk music - plus her dad's a jazz musician! My daughter is now 19 and totally into rock music (she plays electric guitar.) When she was younger, she showed great promise on recorder, but made it clear even then that rock music was her passion.Maybe it's simply a case of her carving her own musical niche within the family...But I'm sure her great love of music was established from the moment she was conceived!!!Hafwen x

we recently had a baby girl here in China and we played classsical Chinese music for her while she was waiting to come out...I hope she also likes it as an adult... Nice to find this forum... I love health care, that is one reason I try to find forums like this, to help others learn about prevention NOT intervention.

Cheers
