I know this is a weird question. i know they feel hunger , sleep, pain etc but do they actually think about things. I mean babies newborn to a few months old. also do they dream and what types. sorry for asking always wondered. just wondering if any scientific studies have shown this.

i think so. im not sure when it would kick in though. and it wouldnt be the same way we think like where we say something in our head.my daughter is terrifed of the hoover, so when i get it out, before its plugged in or on, she is flapping her hands and crying - so that would make me think she has seen it and thought 'hold on, im not having this, i dont like that thing'or if she is in the other room and she hears the barney song - she will run onto the room so i'd think she was thinking 'oh barney's on, i like him'

I'm not sure if there are studies that show they do or not, but if I had to guess, I would say so.One reason I do is because I use to babysit this baby (who is now Cool, and when she would sleep, she would squirm a little and then wake up crying. I never understood why, at the time anyway, because she wasn't hungry and didn't have to go to the bathroom. I now think it's because she was having bad dreams. In my opinion, I think babies are really smart; they just can't show it. Haven't you ever heard that if a baby doesn't keep their mind alert that they lose brain cells? I think I read somewhere that humans only use 10% of their brains, and most of our brain power/cells are lost as a baby because we do not use them.

of course babies have thoughts, take for example they know they like to look around, they know when they are comfortable or not, they like to look at peoples faces as tinyones, as they grow they like to touch things know what they like the touch of and what they dont, know that they feel comfort in their parents and discomfort around strangers, know how to feel lonely hence crying for a cuddle and closeness with mum.

i don't know of a study on this, but i think they have shown babies have all the sleep stages, all four and rem stage.  so they dream.  from what i know their little brain reviews all theyve seen or learned from when they were awake. and if you have thoughts, why not a baby?  like... who's that familiar looking person.  i hear sounds. the thing in the middle of her head is moving.  is it a mouth?  if that moves and i hear sounds, are they connected?  the mouth stoped moving and the sound stopped.  I guess thats talking!  wait, why do I feel wet there again?lol
