My blood type is AB+ and my husband isn't sure of what his is. He thinks its O+. He knows his blood line carries down syndrome. Can we still have children. And if we can, is there a possibility that the child will have down syndrome.

There's always a possibility of down syndrome if it's in the bloodline. As for whether or not you can get pregnant, I'm not sure.  Perhaps ask your doctor?  Sometimes, with weird blood mixtures like that they just need to give you a shot. (They had to do this with me, and the baby and me were just fine).Good Luck

theres always a chance of down syndrome, if its in the family, but bare in mind that doesnt mean that it id going to be sever.  There is also test now, which will tell you if you hav a chance of a baby with down syndrome! my wee niece, is down syndrome and when she was born, we were told she will never be able to hear us or respond,  Which was wrong cause she can hear us fine, and she is even starting 2 crawl which is great.  She is only one.

There is always a possibility for DS with any baby, any couple. Yours is just a slight higher chance. And yes even with different blood types you can get pregnant. Also as far as the blood types, it's called the RH factor. Google it. I had it. It is when one parent is pos blood type and the other is a neg. Like o+ and AB-. That is considered RH factor. If that is your case you can be treated with Rogham. Here is a web site that can give you all the info you need for the RH Factor. (http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/rhfactor/a/aa050601a.htm) Wheither you have it or not is up to your physician and your blood types. Good luck and may God bless.

may I ask...how does your husband know his blood line carries down syndrome? has he been to a genetic counselor to determine this?the reason I ask is because most cases of down syndrome are NOT hereditary 90% of them actually. and only 3-4% of the entire down syndrome population carries the gene for Translocation (the only type of DS that is hereditary)which is quite rare.you asked if there is a possibility of having a child with DS....there always is a chance sweetie. down syndrome no matter what type, is a genetic anomaly that just happens. most of the time there is no rhyme or reason to it.  If you are very worried about it my suggestion would be to make an appointment with a genetic counselor to discuss your chances and to give you detailed answers to your questions.
