I'm just gonna clarify my question because I was too vague. If I drink half a bottle of water and leave the rest for a few days in the car or sitting in my house and drink the rest is that going to make me sick or cause cancer? Sheesh.. I can't do anything without having someone tell me I am killing myself! I do this all the time, I find opened bottles of water sitting around my house that I left a few days or a little more ago and I drink them.

It doesn't cause cancer, but it's not good 'cause that's a perfect situation for bacteria to grow in there. I don't think it'd kill you, but it could make you sick. It's not good.

Nothing, it kinda tastes like plastic after you leave it out, though!

I don't think it will do anything.  The water should be fine to drink.  I do this also and have not had any problems.

It just gets stagnate. Don't worry, I do it all the time, too. I don't know why, though, because it tastes gross.

It may not kill you instantly but you will die much earlier especially if it is a plastic bottle. It has been proven that deadly carcinogens are leeched from plastic bottles into any liquid that it holds. The longer it sits the more opportunity for those toxins to leech into the water (or whatever liquid it may hold). PS... take heed to Pretzel............ just below me as that is precisely true. I went through water treatment and purification training.

Ditch bottled water.  It isn't in style anymore.  Get a reverse osmosis household water filter installed on your sink and then drink your water out of a glass or a stainless steel water bottle.
