I am so confused and I need some advice. I am a 40 yr. old female and I have several health issues. I suffer with Severe Depression, Panic Attacks, Migraines, Degenerative Disc Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis and have "inherited" Hearing Loss which has gotten worse in the last few years. Out of desperation last September I had a discectomy at C5-6 (neck). I had lost use of my right arm due to nerve impingement plus I couldn't stand the pain any longer, the disc had wore out. The disc was replaced with a plate and screws, the bone spurs cleaned up. Now here I am a year later and I literally have to "crawl" out of the bed in the mornings to go to work. I have tried everything from excercise, massages, alternative theray and nothing helps. I have to FORCE myself to function daily and then sometimes I still can't function, I either have to lay on a heating pad or ealk the floors. When I go to work the only thing I can focus on is getting home and trying to alleviate the pain in my arm, neck and back. I get so stressed out from these feelings it sets off the panic attacks and migraines. I work in the automotive industry which is stressful in itself and it also demands alot of repetitive body movement and requires practically standing in one spot for 10 to 11 hours a day. I have no social life, I try not to complain to my husband and friends because I know they are sick of hearing me talk about how bad I hurt. I have regular visits with my family Dr and a Rheumatologist, my cabinets are stockpiled with medicines (right now I'm on Hydrocodone, Ambien CR, Skelaxtin and Lexapro). I'm so tired of feeling like this all the time, I stay depressed because of pain and missing the things I use to do. I often have thoughts of wishing that I would die. Some people have suggested that I try to file for Social Security Disability. I went to work when I was 15 years old and I have worked all of my life and I'm scared of a transition like this entails. What are my chances of being approved be? I would like to hear from others.

Social Security Disability was created just for situations like yours. Although in this day and age it seems a lot of folks have it that shouldn't. You will have to go to your local Social Security office and get the forms. Then have your doctors fill out the paperwork stating that they believe you should be on disabilty. I've never heard of anyone getting accepted the first time they file. It usally take 3 times before your accepted. After you turned down the first time then you go to a Social Security lawyer, (they're easy to find in the phone book) and they will file it again. It won't cost you anything, as these lawyer's don't get paid until you get a settlement. When you are accepted you will recieve a lump sum check for the backpay. Which goes back to the day you originally filed, (this is what you pay your lawyer with). Then you will start receiving a check every month and your medical insurance and so on. It generally takes 2 to 3 years to get it but in your case it will be worth it. There is one catch to all this. You can't file for disability while your still working. You have to be off work entirely or they won't even let you submit your paperwork. So you'll have to quit your job before you can file your claim forms.  That is my mother's problem.  She still works but  has been battling Fibromyalgia, Rheumatiod Arthritis, Degenerative Spine Disease and a heart condition for close to 20 years. But she can't afford to quit her job. She wouldn't be able to pay her bills while she waits to get on disability. I hope this helped a little bit, and good luck to you.

You'll be approved.  I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes, & Depression.  I was approved the very first time.  I used the law firm of Binder & Binder. http://www.binderandbinder.com/  They're wonderful!  Click on their Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).  That will give you a lot of insight into the process.I had worked all of my life too, as a teacher.  I cannot tell you the enormous relief it is not to have to get up early & try to get through another day at work, while in horrible pain.  Good luck & God bless!
