Alkazeltzer plus cold medicine use to do it for me but this was before they took the main ingredient out that they said was causing strokes.  I haven't tried it since then since they omitted the old ingredient but is worth a try.

There is a huge difference between having a cold and having allergies. The medication is different as well.  You need to go back to the doctor and let them know that the advil isn't working so they can give you something that will.

every change of season i get terrible allergies...but going from summer into fall always seems to be the worst. i get a major cold along with pretty severe allergies! by now, ive learned the best tricks. i assure you this will help you! first and foremost address it as soon as possible. if youre getting a sore throat-address is immediately. if you have health insurance-go to the doctors and they will give you prescription medication that will make you feel 100 times better then if you left it unattended. also, mucinex works miracles. it looses the mucus in your nose and throat..making it easier to breath throughout the day and helps you breath at night (isnt it the worst trying to sleep with a stuffy nose!?!?)...vix helps open your lungs...put some of that on your chest when you sleep at night. take a day off...when youre sick--it is best to literally let your body rest. it sounds so old school but it really really works. lie in bed, just relax! drink tea with honey...your sore throat will disappear i promise you. if possible...eat some chicken soup-the chicken has protein and other nutrients that help your body fight off illnesses. you will literally feel better in 1-2 days if you do this. ive been so negligant in the past and figured "getting sick and feeling miserable is a part of life" but if you address it...it doesnt have to be that way!!! good luck... :-)

Colds are caused by hundreds of different viruses. When one of these viruses gets into your body, your immune system attacks. Some of the effects of this immune response are the classic symptoms of a cold, such as congestion and coughing.

The germs that cause colds are contagious. You can pick them up when an infected person sneezes, coughs, or shakes hands with you. After a couple of weeks, at the most, your immune system fights off the virus and you stop having symptoms.

Allergies are caused by an overactive immune system. For some reason, your body mistakes harmless substances -- such as mold or pollen -- for germs and attacks them. Your body releases chemicals such as histamine, just as it does when fighting a cold. This can cause swelling in your nasal passages, a runny nose, coughing, and sneezing. Allergies are not contagious, although some people may inherit a tendency to develop them.
