I've heard many ways doctors test for ADD. Some tell me that they put you in a room and see what you do while they "go get something".How did doctors test you for ADD?What was on the test?

The doctors tested me by letting me take a written test then put me on meds because they thought i had ADD.

Here's the deal, I tested for years....it's not a quick test.  It's done by therapists and social worker types, not doctors.  Doctors want a quick fix off a questionnaire....don't go there!.A therapist who has the tools....willl give the parent and teachers and family members who know the subject to be tested lots of paperwork about who, when ,where, how much....everything!  The child or adult will be interviewed on history, psychological tests, school type questions, and personality questions.  This all helps weed out different problems that could be the source of ADD behavior.  All the paperwork has to be graded....takes about 4 weeks as the school records have to be a part of it!  So for adults, you gotta find 'em!At the end you will be given some options as to diagnosis probability and sources for support or school help if you are testing a kid.  Remember, it's not a black or white thing....the diagnosis doesn't get you anything....but a label.  Maybe some Ritralin, Adderall, or the same.
